BRENTWOOD, TN – Towler, Emilie A. January 22, 2013. She is survived by Oscar Towler, Jr., her husband of 67 years; children Marianne Towler, Ellen Towler, Kimberly Towler, Oscar A. “Chip” (Bee) Towler and their children Jerry, Will, and Callie, and Carole (Chuck) Burgess and their children Kyle, Van, and Claire. Mrs. Towler earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota and completed her M. A. degree at the University of Rochester, NY. She is professor emeritus of psychology at the University of South Carolina, Aiken, and was the chair of the South Carolina Depart-ment of Disabilities and Special Needs commission, president of the South Carolina chapter of the P.E.O. sisterhood, and founder of the Tri-Development Center for the disabled of Aiken. She was also named Woman of the Year for the city of Aiken and awarded the Governor’s Order of the Palmetto from the State of South Carolina. To honor her life, Reverends Erin Racine and Frank Grisham will conduct a service at 4:00pm on Friday, January 25th at Brentwood United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 3:00pm until time of service. Honorary pallbearers are the Wesley Forum Sunday school class. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Emilie A.
