RIDGEWAY, S.C. – Benjamin Walter Sandefur, 77, beloved husband of Leslie Long Sandefur has gone from this earth to be with the Lord. Ben died May 10, 2013 in Ridgeway, South Carolina from liver cancer.

Ben was born December 22,1935 in Evansville, Indiana to parents George and Evelyn Sandefur. He served in the Air Force from 1954-1958, then attended the University of Evansville where he graduated in 1964 with a degree in engineering.

The Sandefurs were blessed with twins, Tim Sandefur (deceased) and Stefanie Hay (Alan) and three grandchildren, Forest and Alaina Hay, Columbia, SC and Amy Sandefur, Warrenville, SC.

The Sandefurs moved to Aiken, SC in 1986 where Ben was a Sr. Engineer at the FMC Crop, now BAE Systems. After retirement Ben was busy golfing, traveling and volunteering. He was an advisor and mentor to the “Jobs For Life” program with Christ Central and with the Red Cross. He faithfully served his church, Aiken First Christian, first as a Deacon, then an Elder. He was Chairman of the Board for two years until he retired due to poor health.

Ben was a quiet man, often called “Gentle Ben” by friends and co-workers. He loved sports, animals and his grandchildren. He was true to his God, his family and his country. As he served man during his life he will continue to do so in death through the Gift of Body Program at USC’s School of Medicine.

Ben will be remembered during Sunday morning worship at Aiken First Christian Church on June 2, 2013.
