Online voting is open now in Aiken County Parks, Recreation and Tourism's first photography contest.
The more than 50 photos that were submitted have been posted on Aiken County PRT's Facebook page and are awaiting "likes." The photo that garners the most "likes" on Facebook will appear on the cover of a 2013 calendar.
"We were thrilled with the response. The quality of photos is amazing," said Emory Langston, PRT assistant director. "The photos have been judged and the top 13 selected."
The top 13 photos, chosen by the three-judge panel, will be printed in the calendar to be sold in the Aiken County Visitor's Center. Proceeds from the contest will benefit senior adult programs offered by Aiken County PRT.
The judges were local painter Sharon Taylor Padgett, local photographer Heather Sargent and Andy Meek with Chris's Camera.
Even though the winning photos have been chosen, they will not be unveiled until an artist showcase in October. They will also be stretched across canvas and auctioned off at the event. The other photos will be printed in a smaller size and auctioned off, as well.
The photos highlight the people, events, wildlife, landmarks and architecture of Aiken County, from Boyd Pond Park to polo, Banksia and The Alley downtown.
Voting on Facebook is open now through 15 and is available to everyone.
Visit www.facebook.com/aikencountyprt, "like" the web page, and then "like" the photo of your choice.
