Support 1 golf fundraiser a success
Sgt. Kevin Hayes, representing the North Augusta Department of Public Safety Monday morning at Midland Valley Country Club, putts in the second annual golf tournament to benefit Support 1, a charity that offers help for police officers, firemen and other emergency responders in the aftermath of especially traumatic situations. With Hayes are Capt. Joe Counts, left, Lt. Tim Thonton and John Thomas, their agency's director.

Support 1’s second annual golf fundraiser, held Monday at Midland Valley Country Club, was a “huge success” in the assessment of Chris Chavous, the nonprofit organization’s founder.

He noted that the 2012 event, with 22 teams, hauled in $8,600, and the 2013 version, with 23 teams, brought in “just over $9,000” for Support 1, which provides help for police officers, firemen and other emergency responders who are dealing with the aftermath of especially traumatic situations.

The winning team was comprised of Chris Heath, Neil Farfour, Greg Kenrick and Johnny Seals. They won in a tiebreaker, just ahead of Jerry Moody, Pat Ellis, Dale Gibbs and Buster Hanley.
