O'Brien finishes sixth in cross-country championship
Nik O'Brien, a junior at North Augusta High School, was the Yellow Jackets' representative Saturday at the state AAAA cross-country championship. He finished sixth, clocked at 15 minutes and 57 seconds for the 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) course.
Terrell Wiggins, the Jackets' coach, assessed O'Brien's performance as "quite sporty" and pointed out that O'Brien finished fourth at the Region 5-AAAA meet - a good indicator of how tough the Jackets' region is.
Lexington (which won the region) dominated the boys' competition and had the top two finishers: Tony Morales, at 15:25; and Zach Langston, at 15:35. The Wildcats also had the fourth finisher, Blake White, at 15:42.
The other top teams in the boys' competition, in order, were Mauldin, Wade Hampton, Wando and Fort Mill.
