Sharon Lamar named SRR 2012 boss of year
Sharon Lamar, a 31-year employee at the Savannah River Site, was selected recently as Savannah River Remediation's 2012 Boss of the Year.
SRR, along with the Department of Energy Office of Civil Rights and the Savannah River Site Special Emphasis Committee, sponsored the 2012 SRR Boss of the Year contest, the first such contest at SRS.
Besides Lamar, other SRR managers nominated were Tom Crouse, Area Project Manager; Stephanie Franklin, Equal Employment Opportunity, Employee Concerns Program and Employee Relations Manager; Mark Schmitz, Integration and Salt Disposal Units Manager; Jason Vitali, Plant Engineer Manager; and Jim Wilson, Field Safety and Health Manager.
The nominees were judged on their support of equal employment opportunity, community involvement, outstanding accomplishments, career enhancement, and leadership abilities in terms of ethics, professionalism, dependability and sensitivity to employees.
Nominated by her work group, Lamar praised her employees for their diligence and commitment to SRR's mission.
"I love the group I work with," she said. "They're a hard-working bunch of people that make it easy being the boss. Our group plays an important part in the success of SRR's mission to clean and operationally close waste tanks."
Lamar has been manager of the SRR Emergency Preparedness and Training Administration group for the last five years. Prior to that, she served on the SRS Facility Evaluation Board and as Work Control Manager at F Tank Farm.
Devivo completes basic in Great Lakes
Navy Seaman Apprentice Michael A. Devivo, son of Crystal M. Robbins and Michael C. Devivo, both of North Augusta, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
During the eight-week program, Devivo completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.
The capstone event of boot camp is "Battle Stations."
This exercise gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet. "Battle Stations" is designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of honor, courage and commitment. Its distinctly ''Navy'' flavor was designed to take into account what it means to be a sailor.
Devivo is a 2012 graduate of North Augusta High School.
