First Baptist Church to hold 'Laces 4 Love'
The Rev. Mark Owens, minister of missions and evangelism at First Baptist Church of North Augusta, spoke at the North Augusta Evening Lions Club's Oct. 9 meeting, giving a report on "Laces 4 Love."
The outreach had its origins in an Owens visit to an elementary school in North Augusta, when he noticed children badly in need of shoes.
"He was able to gain support for the program and was given permission to enter schools to present new shoes to needy children," according to a report from the club.
"Shoes delivered are of good quality and include a pair of socks. This program is administered totally by volunteers, and contributions have come from many generous sources," said Owens.
The plan this year is for distribution of about 3,000 pairs of shoes, including some that are being presented this week by Owens and other travelers taking part in a mission trip to Nicaragua.
