Girls on the Run hosting 5K
Runners of all ages are invited to join more than 150 girls from Girls on the Run of the CSRA for their season-ending 5K celebration and fundraiser on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 9 a.m. at the Kroc Center.
Presented by Fleet Feet Sports, the event is a culmination of 10 weeks of training for girls in third to eighth grades enrolled in GOTR's fall season, and also benefits GOTR's programs, coaches' training and scholarships.
GOTR is the only program in the region that helps transform the lives of at-risk girls in third to eighth grades by combining positive emotional, mental, social and physical development. Each 10-week session teaches life skills through dynamic, conversation-based lessons and running games, taught by certified Girls on the Run coaches.
"Along the way, the girls make new friends, build joyful confidence and learn to celebrate their uniqueness," said Stephany White, executive director of Girls on the Run of the CSRA.
"Our girls learn who they are and what's important to them, the value of teamwork and healthy relationships and how they can positively connect with and shape the world. Even more importantly, they learn that what they might think is impossible - like running a 5K - is possible."
The event is open to runners of all ages. Registration is $25 and closes on Friday, November 2. Register by visiting girlsontherunofthecsra.org.
