A rough second-half led to a high-drama finish and a 30-24 loss for Fox Creek High School's football team Friday against Blackville-Hilda.

Fox Creek, on its home turf, headed into the halftime break with a 17-0 lead but ran into immediate trouble in the third quarter, surrendering 22 unanswered points.

The Predators (2-7, 1-4 Region 4-A) drove to the Hawks' 18-yard line and faced a fourth-and-1 with 33 seconds remaining. An incomplete pass put an end to the drive, and the Hawks (6-3, 4-1) were able to run out the clock.

The Predators will close out their 2012 campaign Friday against Hunter-Kinard-Tyler (5-4, 3-2) at Lions Field. The Trojans' most recent game was a home loss, 26-22, Friday against Wagener-Salley.

Trey Mock, in running the Predators' passing game against Blackville-Hilda, provided plenty of high and low moments. He dished out three touchdowns passes - one each to Brandon Gladney, Zabian Adams and Deondre Baskett - but was picked off three times. Blake Crawford was the leading rusher with 50 yards, despite leaving the game briefly with leg trouble in the second half.

The first quarter was scoreless. Fox Creek almost lit up the scoreboard, scoring an apparent 24-yard touchdown on a pass from Mock to Baskett, but it was negated by a holding penalty, and the Predators wound up punting.

Blackville-Hilda put the Predators in prime position with 14 seconds gone in the second quarter, as Christian Sanders fumbled and the Predators were able to recover at the Hawks' 23-yard line.

It took almost two minutes, but the Predators made it count, as Mock hit Brandon Gladney for a 5-yard touchdown, the first of the evening.

The Predators hit full stride with 2:37 left in the half, when Mock connected with Zabian Adams for an 80-yard score. Adams won a 60- or 70-yard yard dash down the right sideline to seal the deal.

Capping off Fox Creek's first-half success was Dalton Swires, who booted a 22-yard field goal as time expired.
