Sweet Celebrations to brings music and prizes to North Augusta
The ninth annual Sweet Celebrations is coming up, and it's sure to bring a nice mixture of tasty sweets and entertainment to North Augusta.
Hosted by the RECing Crew, Sweet Celebrations will be on Saturday, April 27, from 6 to 10 p.m. at the North Augusta Community Center, 495 Brookside Dr.
Sweet Celebrations is a fundraiser for the RECing Crew, a nonprofit organization that provides leisure and recreational programs for individuals with disabilities from North Augusta and the surrounding area. There are currently 150 members between the ages of 6 to 72 who participate in one or more of the RECing Crew's programs.
According to Sweet Celebrations chairman Pamela Stickler, "Sweet Celebrations helps The RECing Crew raise money for the programs that they offer during the year, such as The Alley Cats, The Crew Chorus, Jazzercise with Lora Lee, Joyful Harmony, The T-RecS Programs, The Miracle League and The ART-Ability Studio.
"We decided we needed to have an avenue to raise money. If we didn't have this event, we would have to have fees for those who participate," Stickler said.
New to the event this year is a performance by Elvis impersonator Russell Schneider along with the RECing Crew chorus. Together, The Crew Chorus and Schneider will sing "Return to Sender."
"Music is the universal language to all, and what is neat about this performance is that they will sing songs and do sign language with it, and they all have different types of disabilities," Stickler said.
There also be will the traditional wide array of themed baskets offered during the Sweet Celebrations' silent auction. The auction will be from 6 to 8 p.m. During this auction, guests can choose from themes, such as a Crayola theme, garden theme or barbecue theme.
In addition, there will be desserts from local businesses including A Piece of Cake, Antonio's Italian Bakery, BBQ Barn, Cakes by Renee, Costco Bakery, Cotton Bug Bakery, French Market, Jennifer's Cakes, Kyndra's Cakes, Louise Odom, Louvenia Mathews, Publix Bakery, Sandra "Sam" Standard, Tastefully Done and Very Vera. Light beverages, such as water, coffee and iced tea will also be served.
Admission tickets are $10 (children 5 and younger are admitted for free) and can be purchased at Communigraphics, Impressions of the South, Jim Bush Florist, Parks Pharmacy and the North Augusta Chamber of Commerce.
"It's a combination of local bakers, local businesses, and the support of the community that have kept Sweet Celebrations an annual event," Stickler said.
