Mullis named Marine after recruit training
Marine Corps Pfc. William N. Mullis, son of retired Navy Chief Petty Officer William B. Mullis and stepson of Melissa Nash-Mullis of North Augusta, earned the title of United States Marine after graduating from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island.
For 13 weeks, Mullis stayed committed during some of the world's most demanding entry-level military training in order to be transformed from civilian to Marine instilled with pride, discipline and the core values of honor, courage and commitment.
Training subjects included close-order drill, marksmanship with an M-16A4 rifle, physical fitness, martial arts, swimming, military history, customs and courtesies.
One week prior to graduation, Mullis endured The Crucible, a 54-hour final test of recruits' minds and bodies. Upon completion, recruits are presented the Marine Corps emblem and called Marines for the first time.
Mullis is a 2012 graduate of North Augusta High School.
Area residents make honor lists at Lander
Lander University announces its president's list, dean's list and freshman honors for fall semester 2012.
Rebecca Gibson of North Augusta made the president's list, and Timothy Thomas of North Augusta made the dean's list.
Undergraduates who have earned a grade point average (GPA) of 4.0 out of a possible 4.0 are on the president's list. Those with a GPA of 3.5 to 3.9 are on the dean's list.
