Winters-Allen home includes Southern charm in style, yard

The home of Kevin Winters and Lindsay Allen is one of the six homes and two refreshment stops on this year's Christmas Tour of Homes, sponsored by the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

Located in Andrew's Branch at 145 Millwood Lane, this colonial/Georgian home was selected by Winters and Allen after a thorough search in the North Augusta area.

Having lived in Illinois and then in South Florida before moving to North Augusta, they wanted to incorporate both styles, including Southern charm, into the interior as well as the yard.

The home is mostly a one-story with a bonus room over the garage. The interior is filled with many upgrades, such as crown molding, Brazilian hickory hardwood floors in the formal rooms, porcelain tile in the kitchen and bathrooms, granite counter tops in all rooms and custom upgraded lighting fixtures.

The home is decorated with artwork collected from their travels abroad, many collectibles, antiques and family heirlooms.

In 2007, a custom sunroom was added to the back of the house. This four-season, all-purpose room is utilized every day and filled with beautiful orchids and violets.

After installing an in-ground pool in 2008, Winters turned the back yard into a tropical oasis. Allen designed and also installed additional sprinklers and outside conduits with electrical outlets to display Winters' landscape lighting at night. Also in the background is a greenhouse that stores exotic plants during the winter and a goldfish pond with a waterfall, all under a gazebo that is covered with jasmine.

The Winters-Allen home is joined on the tour by Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Trimmier, The River Club, 118 River Club Lane; Walker Posey, Hammond's Ferry, 445 Railroad Avenue; Danny Purvis and Joey Galloway, 312 West Forest Ave.; Dr. and Mrs. Steve Rogers, 926 River Oak Drive; Mr. and Mrs. Jim Vines, Oak Creek, 601 Whitewood Way.

In addition, Hammond Hill Elementary School, 901 W. Woodlawn Ave., is celebrating its 60th birthday and will be a part of the tour, as well as the Arts and Heritage Center of North Augusta, 100 Georgia Ave.
