Jammin' at Jack-O-Lantern Jubilee

There was something for everyone at North Augusta's Jack-O-Lantern Jubilee Saturday, as the annual festival expanded its efforts.

There were the usual activities - about 70 vendors' booths with everything from artsa and crafts to free water and a variety of food items. There were inflatables for the kids, as well as other kid-friendly activities hosted by the Lion's Club.

The Halloween costume contest was, as usual a big hit, as was the live entertainment throughout the day. From Michael Kelch's band to Rhythm and Class dancers, Junior Jazzercise and RECing Crew Singers, children and adults alike were entertained by the steady stream of performers.

And this year's Jubilee offered several new twists.

A 5K Spooky Sprint on the Greeneway started the day off.

And throughout the day, there were participants in a barbecue cook-off as well as an apple dessert contest, put on by the North Augusta Women's Junior League.

Passers-by near Gary's were treated to a car show during the day.

The North Augusta High School's Future Business Leaders of America Partnership with Business Project members held a pet costume contest and presented awards in three categories - best dressed, best Halloween costume and best look alike.

But perhaps the highlight for many children was a section of carnival rides complete with "flying" helicopters, swings and even a "Flying Dutchman" ride.

Jackson Square served as the locale for the cornhole tournament and also hosted Jack-O-Lantern Jam.

Palmetto Groove band provided the entertainment as the festivities turned from child-focused to adult-focused in the evening.
