Student column: Creek speaks
At Mossy Creek Elementary we have literature circles. This is the first year I have done them in fourth grade. You have as many groups as you need. In my class, we have five groups. Every group reads a different book. Every level has a different number of pages to read each day.
On Friday, the kids do these sheets. There is a summarizer, a real-life connector, an illustrator, a word wizard and a discussion leader. Then after most people are done, the groups meet together and do their sheets with each other.
I like literature circles. They are pretty fun. I mean, you get to be with friends, and you are learning. I always like learning new things. If you a teacher, then I suggest you try these. They may not work, but it never hurts to give things a try.
