FCHS makes use of new facility for baseball team
Wesley Brown, the Predators' coach, confirmed that his players can now have a roof over their heads when working on batting or infield skills. Their new building offers interior lighting and more than 4,000 square feet of practice space, allowing dozens of players to get a workout at the same time.
"This was one of the first things that I wanted to do when I got here, but of course it takes money...and time. This is the biggest addition. We're definitely the only high school on this side of the river, in the CSRA, that's got a facility like this," he said.
With the new arrangement, a rainy day can actually work in the Predators' favor, since other teams may be forced to scrap their practice plans, but Brown's bunch can still make good use of the time.
Some elements, such as some carpeting and two bullpens, are still to be put in place.
Lakeside, Evans and Greenbrier high schools have similar facilities, he noted.
The Predators don't yet have field lighting, so the current arrangement allows the team to practice outdoors while natural light is adequate and then move indoors once sunlight fades.
"We'll have lights on the field next year," he added.
